Key Takeaways

  • The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) signed five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with leading government entities, research institutions, and community organizations during Global Food Week 2025.
  • The agreements cover collaboration in agricultural trade, scientific research, technical training, social development, and volunteer engagement.
  • Partners include the Ministry of Defence, Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Abu Dhabi Airports, Abu Dhabi Customs, Elite Agro Holding, Silal, Pure Harvest Smart Farms, ESG Agro, the International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), the Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority, and the Emirates Blood Donation Society.
  • The partnerships support Abu Dhabi’s vision for food security, agricultural innovation, and community empowerment, reinforcing its role as a regional hub for sustainable agriculture and trade.

ADAFSA: Strengthening Abu Dhabi’s Agricultural Ecosystem

Through the five new agreements, ADAFSA aims to build an integrated ecosystem that connects research, policy, logistics, and community development. The partnerships will promote data-driven agricultural growth, support local producers, and align with Abu Dhabi’s sustainable development and food security goals.

“These agreements reflect ADAFSA’s ongoing efforts to expand its strategic partnership network and foster institutional integration,” the authority said. “They also advance Abu Dhabi’s competitiveness as a regional hub for food safety, innovation, and agricultural excellence.”

Advancing Food Trade and Logistics Efficiency

A multilateral MoU was signed with ADIO, Abu Dhabi Airports, Abu Dhabi Customs, and several private-sector partners, including Elite Agro Holding, Silal, Pure Harvest Smart Farms, and ESG Agro. The agreement seeks to streamline the trade of perishable agricultural products, enhance logistics operations, and boost the global competitiveness of Abu Dhabi’s exports.

A joint steering committee will oversee the framework’s implementation, focusing on infrastructure coordination, quality control, and the adoption of unified technical standards for faster, safer handling of agricultural goods.

This initiative will leverage Abu Dhabi’s logistics and regulatory infrastructure to strengthen the emirate’s agri-trade position and support sustainable export growth.

Enhancing Scientific Research and Agricultural Innovation

In cooperation with the International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), ADAFSA signed an MoU to expand research in saline and arid-environment agriculture, including the development of climate-resilient crops and the use of remote sensing technologies.

The agreement includes the formation of joint research teams and training programs to build local capacity in agricultural innovation. The partnership supports sustainable food security initiatives across the UAE and wider region, with a focus on empowering youth and women in agricultural research and policy development.

ADAFSA: Empowering Local Farmers and Communities

To support limited-income farming families, ADAFSA entered into an MoU with the Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority. The partnership will facilitate data sharing, training programs, and awareness campaigns to enhance productivity and social inclusion.

Special focus will be given to women farmers and home-based producers, helping them access marketing platforms, participate in agricultural exhibitions, and improve product visibility.

The agreement also promotes digital integration between both entities and establishes joint monitoring committees to assess outcomes and social impact.

Promoting Technical Training and Health Initiatives

ADAFSA’s MoU with the Ministry of Defence, represented by the Chemical Defence Command, will deliver a three-week technical training program on hazardous biological sample analysis. The program will include modules on biosecurity, histology, parasitology, bacteriology, serology, and molecular diagnostics, alongside frameworks for sample management and scientific consultancy.

Additionally, ADAFSA signed an agreement with the Emirates Blood Donation Society to expand cooperation in health awareness, blood donation campaigns, and volunteer engagement. The collaboration aims to promote social responsibility within the agricultural sector and contribute to national health initiatives.

ADAFSA: Supporting Abu Dhabi’s Food Security Vision

Together, these five MoUs highlight ADAFSA’s commitment to building a connected agricultural system that combines innovation, logistics, research, and community partnership. The initiatives contribute to Abu Dhabi’s long-term goals of:

  • Enhancing food security and safety.
  • Promoting sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture.
  • Expanding agricultural exports and trade efficiency.
  • Empowering farmers and community stakeholders.
  • Strengthening public health and social engagement.
